So about this time last year I put together a dubstep mix. Which, despite DJing dubstep for 8 years, is only my second official studio mix (so not including the weekly radio shows) and ambitiously called May 2011 (as if they’d then be a June one?). Anyway, I only recently uploaded it for your listening pleasure. Why wasn’t it up earlier? Well there’s a slight (one second) blemish between tracks 9 & 10. Damn perfectionism kills me…
When will my next mix land? Maybe they’ll be a May 2012 version soon…

So I’ve uploaded another old mix for your listening pleasure. This one was originally recorded for Ombilikal Radio in 2005 and is the follow up to You Are The Leader. It’s called The Intergalactic Dancehall, partly because of the use of the Beastie Boys acapella but mainly because I like that title… It’s a little more intense in places than it’s prequel but again I had a lot of fun making it so I hope you do when listening! Oh and guess what, it’s eclectic again!

You Are The Leader

April 9, 2012

So to christen this new site so to speak it seems fitting to upload this mix. It’s probably the mix I’m most proud of and has made recording mixes difficult since! Too much of a perfectionist… It was recorded in 2005, I’d just moved to Brighton where I’d started hitting a few new record stores (new record stores always = wider listening + more cash spent) and going to new nights (Wrong Music… for those that know), so I’d just hauled in a load of new records. I put several days of time into selecting the play list, trying to put together old and new, organic and electronic, as well as putting as many records on within 60 minutes as I could (without resorting to putting cue stickers on..). Definitely the fastest mixing I’ve done in the pre-laptop era.

It was only recorded in 1 take with a couple of practice runs – no time going back and editing! I’ve tried some pretty stupid stuff and pulled it off – like overlaying tracks over The Doors (they don’t stick to a bpm…) or mixing weird time signatures. One thing it definitely does do is demonstrate what the eclectic means when you’re talking about musical tastes….

Anyway, enjoy this as much as I have… and take heed in its inspirational message, you are a leader!
